The big spruce log is 190 feet long from where it cracked off from it's base. The park uses the log to show the life cycle of trees in the rainforest. Young trees sprout up from the decaying logs, utilizing the dead logs nutrients and over time rooting themselves in the soil below. You can see the tunnels left by the process all over the forest.
I hiked the nearby trails, enjoying the sights for most of the day and evening until the mosquitos chased me into the van. The bugs here are fierce.
